Catherine De Medici

 

1. Catherine de' Medici (13 April 1519 – 5 January 1589) was born in Florence, Italy

 

2. Their(Francis II, Charles IX and Henry III) mother was Catherine De Medici, an ambitious woman who sought to rule through her children.

 

 

 

 

 

3. For reasons of policy rather than conviction, Catherine cultivated the Protestants.

 

4. She conevened a colloquy of Protestnat and Catholic theologians that gathered at Pissy in order to seek an agreement but it failed.

 

5. In 1562, the regent issued the Edict of St.Germain, which Granted Huguenots freedom to practice their religion.
