It consists of the clergy, the nobility, and the bourgeoisie.

Louis XVI wanted to use it to overcome the resistance of the clergy and the nobility.

The assembly gathered on May 4, 1789.

Some priests and the bourgeoisie declared themselves a "National Assembly."

National Constituent Assembly(NCA) issued the "Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen."

NCA promulgated the "Civil Constitution of the Clergy"(CC) in 1790.

NCA felt that it had the authority to regulate the life and organization of the Catholic Church in France.

Most the measures in the CC were intended to reform the church.

NCA decreed that all who held ecclesiastical office must swear allegiance to the CC.

NC abolished monarchy and proclaimed the Republic.
