French Revolution

This is joined to a strong reaction against Christianity.

The leaders were convinced that science and reason would overcome all superstition and religion.

The Revolution wished to have nothing to do with the church.

The Revolution created its own religion.

The promoters of the new religion made use of the guillotine.

After the revolution, the links between church and state were never as strong as they had been before.
