Estates General -> National Assembly -> National Constituent Assembly -> the Legislative Assembly -> the National Convention(NC)
It consists of the clergy, the nobility, and the bourgeoisie.
Louis XVI wanted to use it to overcome the resistance of the clergy and the nobility.
The assembly gathered on May 4, 1789.
Some priests and the bourgeoisie declared themselves a "National Assembly."
National Constituent Assembly(NCA) issued the "Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen."
NCA promulgated the "Civil Constitution of the Clergy"(CC) in 1790.
NCA felt that it had the authority to regulate the life and organization of the Catholic Church in France.
Most the measures in the CC were intended to reform the church.
NCA decreed that all who held ecclesiastical office must swear allegiance to the CC.
NC abolished monarchy and proclaimed the Republic.
