Philip Melanchthon
- Was a German reformer
- Wrote Loci Theologici which was systematic theology book
- His systematic exposition of theology became the standard textbook for the study of theology among Lutherans
- Love peace because of that he maintained relationship with Erasmus
- Affirmed the doctrine of justification by faith insisted on the need for good works
Philippists
- Agreed to "Leipzig Interim"
- Distinguished central elements of the gospel and peripheral
- Insisted the essential elementary of the gospel should be kept
- Never agreed with Luther's assertion about the "enslaved will"
- Moved to a position that granted the sinful human will greater freedom, and eventually came to speak of a collaboration among the Spirit, the Word, human will
- Melanchthon's views were akin to Calvin's, the Philippists were in truth Calvinists
